GENERAL.  I/O Module.  Encoder Module.  RS232 Module.

All LAP sensors with Digital Signal Processor (DSP) may be used in connection with LAP I/O modules.

Communication takes place on RS485 by LAP SynchroNet protocol. This 9-bit protocol, invented by LAP for sensors, works as multimaster network with a token ring procedure. Each device has an own network address and points to the next participant. After sending the first address, the first participant sends his value, then addresses the next device. For setting outputs, the command address is followed by the data, both with a length of one byte. To identify data and addresses, in data bytes the parity bit (9th bit) is "0", in address bytes it is "1".

The digital I/O-Module reads or sends one byte for 8 inputs or outputs.

The analog I/O-Module uses 4 analog inputs and 2 analog outputs 4-20 mA, transformed by 12 bit D/A or A/D converter.

The Encoder Module is made to adapt an encoder using 2 signal inputs.

To connect an absolute value encoder to LAP SynchroNet, you may use the SSI Encoder Module. It has two data and two clock inputs, each time "+" and "-".

External RS232 devices may be linked to SynchroNet using the LAP RS232 Module.
