Online measurement at a continuous caster at Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH

Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH operates two continuous casters in the Salzgitter works which supply the adjacent hot strip mill and the plate mill in the Ilsenburger works.

For quality assurance in the continuous casters the precise information on slab width is necessary. Minimum and maximum width, the width profile, and the conicity of the slabs are important.

The LAP widht measurement system measures the slab width downstream from the torch-cutting units online with high accuracy and ensures the complete monitoring of the width profile over the entire length of the slabs.

The data is available for the succeeding production steps and can easily be evaluated for further optimisation of the rolling process. It is stored in a data base over several months to ensure documentation without interruption.
