Ecological construction
The buildings at our main manufacturing site in Lüneburg were constructed with a strong focus on ecological and sustainable principles. Several rooftops feature green spaces, or are equipped with photovoltaic systems that contribute to renewable energy generation.
Inside, the buildings are thoughtfully designed following building biology standards. This approach prioritizes the use of non-toxic, natural materials and emphasizes the optimization of indoor air quality, lighting, and acoustics – creating a working environment that promotes employee health and well-being.
Biodiversity and habits at LAP
At LAP, we promote biodiversity on and around our company premises in Lüneburg. Several of our buildings are equipped with green roofs that improve insulation while creating valuable habitats for plants and animals. In addition, selected open spaces are intentionally left unmown and unplanted to encourage natural vegetation and provide refuges for insects and birds.
Certain areas also serve as nesting grounds and feature traditional orchard meadows, whose fruit is available for employees to harvest and enjoy.
These initiatives reflect our ongoing commitment to preserving local ecosystems and integrating biodiversity into sustainable site management.
Use of renewable energy sources
LAP sources nearly all electricity for its company premises in Lüneburg from green electricity*. This includes power generated by the company´s own photovoltaic system as well as electricity supplied exclusively from renewable energy sources that meet the strict criteria for certified green electricity “ÖKOSTROM”. This leads to a substantial reduction in CO₂ emissions compared to the use of fossil-based electricity.
ECO-certified gas
LAP exclusively sources eco-certified natural gas for its operations in Lüneburg. This gas is supplied by providers that offset its carbon footprint through certified climate protection projects, making it a more environmentally responsible choice compared to conventional natural gas.
* This excludes the electricity generated by our combined heat and power (CHP) plant. For more information, see the section 'Combined Heat and Power Plant'.
Combined heat and power plant
Our combined heat and power (CHP) plant is a highly efficient energy system that simultaneously generates electricity and heat. Powered by certified eco-gas rather than conventional natural gas, it delivers low-emission electricity and heat. This dual-purpose approach reduces primary energy demand and minimizes energy losses while further shrinking our carbon footprint. The CHP plant underlines our dedication to ecological responsibility.
Environmental performance monitoring
We regularly monitor, analyze, and evaluate our environmental performance to drive continuous improvement in our sustainability efforts. This comprehensive monitoring process covers several key areas such as electricity consumption, heating energy use (gas), water usage, vehicle fleet emissions, and waste generation. By systematically tracking these indicators, we gain a clear understanding of our environmental impact and can measure our progress over time.
The data and key performance indicators we collect provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of our current measures. They also form a solid foundation for identifying further opportunities to optimize resource efficiency, reduce emissions, and minimize waste. Through this structured approach, we aim to enhance our environmental performance and continuously contribute to long-term sustainability.
