Abstract
This article describes how the 4D EAGLE S system, jointly developed by KOCKS and LAP, combines profile measurement with three-dimensional surface inspection of hot long products. It focuses on the use of machine learning to classify surface defects and distinguish them from harmless features such as scale. The article explains the measurement principle, model training guided by domain expertise, and integration into existing production facilities and IT systems. Practical examples illustrate the potential for early defect detection, fewer false alarms, and more targeted quality assurance in rolling mills.
