SmartRoMaIn – Smart Rotorblade Manufacturing and Inspection
Advancing quality assurance and intelligent process support for rotor blade manufacturing
Background
Rotor blade manufacturing for wind energy applications requires reliable production processes, consistent quality standards and efficient handling of large-scale composite structures. As manufacturing environments continue to evolve, the demand for intelligent digital support and advanced inspection technologies is steadily increasing.
The collaborative research project explored potential approaches for process-integrated inspection, digital visualization and manufacturing support technologies within industrial production environments. The project focused on strengthening the foundation for future-oriented, data-driven manufacturing processes in the renewable energy sector.
Project objectives
The objective of the project was to investigate and evaluate advanced technologies for optical inspection, process support and integrated quality assurance in manufacturing environments.
Key areas of focus included:
- process-integrated inspection technologies,
- user-oriented visualization concepts,
- approaches for automated identification of production deviations, and
- user-oriented assistance systems for manufacturing personnel.
Another important aspect of the project was the investigation of scalable concepts intended for integration into existing production infrastructures while considering compatibility with existing processes.
Implementation
Within the project, modular concepts for optical inspection and visualization systems were developed and evaluated in representative industrial environments.
The work included the integration of imaging technologies, digital interfaces and visualization components with the aim of supporting manufacturing and quality-related workflows. In parallel, approaches for process-related data acquisition and user-oriented visualization were investigated and tested in representative production scenarios.
Through the collaborative development approach, the project contributes to the further development of digital manufacturing technologies and explores concepts for intelligent production environments in renewable energy manufacturing.
