Introducing THETIS 3D MR Distortion Phantom

LAP adds a new phantom for quality assurance of MRI images in radiotherapy and diagnostics to its portfolio. The THETIS 3D MR Distortion Phantom serves to detect possible distortions of MR images reliably and quickly.

MR imaging gets more and more important in radiation therapy. The quality of the MR images plays a big role in this context and is influenced by the geometric accuracy of the magnetic field. Distortions are caused by inhomogeneity in the magnetic field and other effects like gradient non-linearity. The distortion of the MR system should therefore be assessed and regularly monitored.

To detect distortions of MR images LAP developed the THETIS 3D MR Distortion Phantom. It contains small markers arranged in a square grid that provide a strong, localized MR signal. Each measurement plate holds 258 signal sources. By determining the amount of distortion of the square grid or signal loss on the MR image, possible image distortion can be detected by the user. Due to the size of the phantom plates, THETIS 3D MR Distortion Phantom fits perfectly in the bore and can also show the distortions at the edge of the field of view.

“Quality assurance is a major task in radiation therapy. With the THETIS 3D MR Distortion Phantom LAP is extending its QA portfolio to cover mandatory quality aspects not only relevant for radiation therapy but also for imaging and diagnostics,”explaines Torsten Hartmann, Director of Product Management (healthcare) at LAP.

The THETIS 3D MR Distortion Phantom is adaptable to different requirements due to its modular expansion stages with a maximum of 10 plates. Optional accessories are available according to clinical needs.
